Brockwitz Cloud Glass

Brockwitzer Glasfabrik AG was founded in 1903 at Brockwitz near Dresden and was making glass until 1990.  In 1929 the company ran into financial trouble and was taken over in 1932 by a group of American investors - The General Mortgage Credits Corporation of New Jersey. The company was nationalised after World War II.

The company appears to have made the usual range of domestic glassware, including drinking glasses and lamp shades. At the present time we do not know how extensive their range of Cloud Glass was, or the dates of manufacture. At present we only know they made some styles in Amber Cloud. Research is continuing.

As well as the bowls listed below, vases in the Meissen pattern have also been found in Amber Cloud Glass.

Brockwitz Pattern No:  48900
Known Cloud Colours:   Amber
Size(s):  12cm and 18 cm diameter
Date Range:  1936(?) to 1941 (?)
Description:  This bowl has been recently discovered in a 1936 Brockwitz catalogue. It was made in a variety of non-cloud colours. The flower holder in the centre consisted of a nude female figure with long flowing hair. The drawing in the catalogue shows a bowl with the rim turned up so that it formed a shallow dish. Ours has the rim turned over and out. The bowl was decorated with a design of thistle flowers and leaves. The feet of the bowl are formed from three thistle flowers. The example shown here is very lightly trailed.
